A Matter of Balance Fall Prevention Program

A Matter of Balance (MOB) fall prevention program is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower older adults in maintaining their independence and reducing their risk of falls.  Through a combination of exercise, education, and group discussions, participants learn practical strategies to enhance their strength, balance and confidence in daily activities.  The program emphasizes recognizing fall hazards in the home environment and teaches effective techniques for managing concerns related to falling.  By fostering a supportive atmosphere and encouraging active participation, a Matter of Balance not only equips individuals with valuable skills but also cultivates a sense of community and mutual support among participants.  With its evidenced-based approach tailored curriculum, the program serves as a vital resource in promoting healthy aging and enhancing the quality of life for older adults.

By attending the 8-week, evidenced-based program, participants will learn to view falls as something they can control, set goals and increase activity levels, make changes to reduce fall risks at home and exercise to increase strength and balance.

A Matter of Balance is for you if:

  • You are concerned about falls.
  • You want to improve your balance, strength and flexibility.
  • You have fallen in the past.
  • You don’t do things you used to enjoy because you fear falling.

The Matter of Balance classes are held at different locations throughout the county.  For more information or to register for a class, please call the Council on Aging at 419-523-4121 or toll-free 1-877-796-1760.  Our staff will be able to put you on the wait list for the next available class.
